Miller Barmasse and Molly Zanetti were double winners Wednesday as Fredonia State opened its 2013 women's tennis season with a 5-4 home win over Penn State Behrend.
Each woman won her singles match - Barmasse at No. 4, and Zanetti at No. 5 - and paired to win the No. 2 doubles match.
"They were consistent," Fredonia State coach Joe Calarco said. "It was the first match with a lot of nerves. There were a lot of people watching them with high expectations. Three through six are the ones who came through in the bottom of the order and won the match for us. The upperclassmen did very well for us."
The Blue Devils won two other singles matches - Jessica Johnston at No. 3, and Stephanie Thompson at No. 6. In doing so, they aided in handing the Behrend its first loss of the season after two wins.
Fredonia State enters SUNYAC competition with a match Saturday at Brockport. The Blue Devils return home next Tuesday against Roberts Wesleyan.
