ALLEGANY - The Dunkirk Marauders went toe to toe with perennial powerhouse Allegany-Limestone on Wednesday in boys high school non-league soccer action.
In the end, after a double overtime, the two teams walked away with a 2-2 tie.
"To travel to Allegany, with a long trip, you don't know what to expect and how the guys will respond," Dunkirk coach Mike Green said. "Allegany has a well-respected program. To give the effort we gave and tie a very good team, it was a real booster for us."
Dunkirk's Nelmy Robles scored the opening goal at the 10-minute mark with an assist from Angel Echevarria.
However, just 10 seconds later, the Gators tied it up as Robbie Higby found the back of the net. At the 28-minute mark, the home team took its first lead as Dom Saglimven scored for Allegany-Limestone.
Still in the first half, Dunkirk freshmen Chris Michalski tied the score off a feed from Antonio Robles.
In the second half, Allegany-Limestone had a couple opportunities to break the tie, but goaltender Tyler Kubasik and the Marauder defense kept the score tied, 2-all.
Kubasik finished with 10 saves.
"Tyler has never had any formal training as a goalie," Green noted. "He has been phenomenal and has kept us in games. He has been a bright spot so far for us this year.
"We had a few opportunities on corner kicks, but were unable to convert," Green continued. "I was happy we got 13 shots on goal. Last week against Eden, we only had four. It was nice to have an offensive outburst."
Dunkirk's first league game will be a week from Friday against rival Fredonia.
