Joseph A. Crouse, age 58, of 44 Seneca St., Salamanca, NY passed away Monday evening, Sept. 9, 2013 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY following a long illness.
Born Oct. 11, 1954 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Emery and Velma Shongo Michalak.
Mr. Crouse was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1972 - 1975.
He was employed with Conrail in Dunkirk, NY as a lineman. He had also worked in construction and roofing.
Mr. Crouse was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Bear Clan. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, horseshoes and listening to music. He enjoyed everything in life and lived it to the fullest.
Surviving are a son, Joseph A. Crouse Jr., of Dunkirk; 2 stepdaughters, Tami (Michael) Pace of Spartansburg, SC and Beckey Crouse of Charlotte, NC; a stepson, William Maggio of Spartansburg, SC; 2 half brothers, Mark Michalak of Perrysburg, NY, and Paul Michalak of Columbus, GA; 1 uncle, Reggie Crouse of Salamanca, NY; 3 aunts, Greta Kettle of Salamanca, NY, June Jones, of Oak Tree, Calif., and Betty Crouse Mele of Salamanca, NY; and several cousins, in-cluding Margery Becelia of Salamanca, NY.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
