A fire on West Main Road damaged a barn late Wednesday night.
Fredonia Fire Department officials report the blaze at 4617 W. Main Road began around 11:30 p.m. and was ignited by an apparent lightning strike. The blaze was under control within 20 minutes, reported John Lanphere, second assistant chief for the department.
The structure received heavy damage to the west rear corner along and a small utility shed was destroyed. The barn had smoke and water damage as well.
Fredonia received assistance from Brocton, the West Town of Dunkirk and the East Town of Dunkirk fire companies while the city of Dunkirk firefighters stood by at the Fredonia fire station.
