Deidra Osula set a new Fredonia record in the 100-yard butterfly as the combined Dunkirk-Fredonia-Silver Creek girls swimming team dropped Panama, 107-73, in CCAA action Tuesday.
Osula touched the wall in a time of :59.33 and broke Michelle Heary's record of 1:00.6, which was set in 1984. The time was also good enough to qualify her for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Division II meet.
"It was pretty exciting to see a nearly 30-year old record be broken and a state-qualifying time happen in the third meet," Dunkirk-Fredonia-Silver Creek head coach Joanne Lotter said.
Osula was also a member of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. Joining her on the 200 medley team, which finished in a time of 1:58.62, were Riley Drummond, Katie Webster and Mikayla Reynolds. On the 200 freestyle team with Osula were Ericka Eades, Katie Cymerman and Haley Zebraski. The quartet finished in a time of 1:56.41.
Drummond reset her own Dunkirk record in the 100 backstroke after touching the wall first in a time of 1:03.67. Reynolds was first in the 50 freestyle (:27.50) and 100 freestyle (1:02.95) while Katie Webster was first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:17.15.
