Fredonia's Jared Kowalski, left, and Silver Creek's Sam Mullen, right, were both members of the New Era 12U travel baseball team this summer. Kowalski played outfield and pitcher. At the plate, he batted .321 with an on-base percentage of .444. On the mound, he finished 3-1 in 14 appearances with an earned run average of 5.69. Mullen played catcher and third base. At the plate, he batted .389, with six homers and 32 RBIs. He also led the team with a .924 fielding percentage. The pair helped the team reach the championship rounds of the New Era Cap Classic, Lewiston Tournament, Buffalo Wings Tournament and the Chesapeake Classic in Aberdeen, Md. They finished the season playing at Cooperstown Dreams Park, a week long, 104-team tournament, eventually losing to the Charter Oaks Stars from Los Angeles, Calif. in the round of 32.
