Blood screening Saturday
Registration is being accepted for the 29th annual Rotary Blood Screening program.
The program includes a clinical blood test, including the colon-rectal take home test kit, and T4 Thyroxing test for $45. A PSA test is an additional $25.
Appointments are from 6:30 to 9:20 a.m. Saturday at Dunkirk High School with a free blood pressure screening and test results sent to your personal physician within one week.
Proceeds from this program stay in the Dunkirk and Fredonia communities. Call 363-3917 to register.
Informational meeting set on Forestville water districts
There will be an informational meeting for the residents on Creek Road and Bennett State Road affected by the village of Forestville decommissioning the springs in Arkwright in March 2014. This meeting will take place on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Forestville Village Hall. Discussion of forming water districts and other options will be the topics.
An engineer from the firm running the water project in Forestville will be there as well as the Chautauqua County Department of Health Water Recourse Specialist to answer questions and explore options in this matter. Forestville Attorney Michael Sullivan and Deputy Mayor Kevin Johnson will also be in attendance.
Sheridan holding tire amnesty program
The town of Sheridan is holding a tire amnesty program and will continue to collect old tires until Sept. 30 or until full capacity has been reached. The town is limited to 500 tires. Tires must be 19 inches or less with no rims and can be delivered to the town barns for pickup. Residents may call the Sheridan Highway Department at 673-1806 to schedule a time to drop off tires.
Westfield Community Chorus cancels season
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Westfield Community Chorus will not be performing this year. The choral leaders are hopeful that the group can reform next year. They wish to thank all choir members and supporters who have been so faithful over the last 40 years.
Outreach committee to hold fundraisers
The Mayville United Methodist Church Community Outreach Committee will be holding a car wash, can drive, yard sale and hot dog sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the church located at 81 South Erie St., Mayville. In the event of rain, the yard sale and hot dog sale will be held inside. The proceeds from this event will help fund the outreach activities planned for the community.
The village of Gowanda will host an electronic recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The event will take place at the sewer plant on Aldrich Street.
