Koinonia Christian Fellowship and Kiantone Congregational Church are hosting Southern Gospel Singer Ivan Parker Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Crown Theatre in Jamestown. Parker is a frequent guest on the Gaither Homecoming Series videos. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from Pastor Ron Lemon at 569-5943 or Letty Love Smith at 574-9816. Ivan Parker has traveled around the world and blessed many people with his unique talent in the Southern Gospel Music Industry.
A North Carolina-born preacher's kid, Ivan Parker is among the best-loved artists in gospel music. He traveled with the award-winning Gold City quartet, for more than a decade, before embarking on a solo career in 1994. During his years with Gold City, the group gained national notoriety, achieved 19 Top Ten hits, including a 1993 Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year by the Gospel Music Association.
Today, Ivan is an award-winning solo performer who was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1993 and has received more than 20 awards from a variety of leading fan and trade publications. His contagious warmth, coupled with his genuine love for gospel music, gives Ivan a unique connection with the songs he communicates to countless thousands every year. He is a favorite on the Homecoming stage and as a solo artist.
In 2008, the Gaither Gospel Series released The Best Of Ivan Parker on DVD and CD, which peaked on Billboard Magazine's Music Video Chart at #2. Most recently, Ivan was nominated for a 2009 Visionary Award by the Christian Music Hall of Fame for Southern Gospel Male Vocalist of the Year.
Ivan and his wife, Teresa, reside in Nashville, Tenn. They are the parents of two grown sons, Ryan and Josh. Ryan is happily married to Sandy Hagee and they are the proud parents of the Parker's first two granddaughters.
