Today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. several special events will take place in honor of Jadyn Salgado at the Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89, 296 Lake Shore Dr. W, Dunkirk.
An American Cross blood drive will be held all day in recognition of Salgado who is turning 6 years old. Salgado's life was saved by a platelet donor in 2007 after being diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, also known as ITP. Patients suffer from dangerously low platelet levels, which can lead to hemorrhages, bleeding through the skin and even death.
Her mother, Cara Salgado said in a phone interview, "Awareness of ITP alone is important. It's a severe disease that not many people know about. Jadyn being here is a miracle. That one person saved my daughter's life."
All blood donors will receive a coupon for Monro Muffler coupon for a $19 oil change and free wiper blades.
Other events include a bike run beginning at 11:30 a.m. (registration starts at 10 a.m.) and live music by DJ Jammer from noon to 3 p.m., Gina V and The Barn Cats from 3-5 p.m. and Disturbin the Peace from 5-7 p.m.
There will be a Chinese auction, raffles, a chicken barbecue and birthday cake.
