Forestville Central School’s Business Administrator Carolyn Robertson and Superintendent Chuck Leichner look over an audit report delivered by accountant Denise Veloski at the board of education meeting Thursday.
The agenda was packed, and so was the middle/high school's library.
Superintendent Chuck Leichner started the meeting by explaining why high school students were sent home at 12:30 p.m. on the same day. Leichner said construction taking place in the village caused a water main break and the school was without an adequate water supply. (School resumed as usual on Friday and there weren't any other issues as of Monday.)
At the meeting, Board President Sylvester Cleary joked, "It's good to see we can flow under pressure."
In other matters, an external audit report was delivered by Denise Veloski, an accountant with R.A. Mercer. The audit was clean and Veloski said, "There were no deficiencies or material weaknesses. Everything went very smoothly."
Next, Leichner introduced a new board member, L. Rodney Rogers, and administered an "oath of faithful performance in office."
"We're really glad to have Rod join us," Cleary remarked.
New staff members Rachel Elersic Henry, Tom Donovan and Emily Scott were introduced.
Elersic Henry has a master's degree in literacy and is teaching social studies for grades nine and ten. Donovan has taken a long-term substitute position and is teaching English for grades nine, ten and eleven. Scott is the school's new occupational therapist.
Cleary welcomed them to the district and said, "Thank you for joining our family."
Moving forward, two music students were recognized for their upcoming participation at the New York State School Music Association winter conference.
Juniors Mateo Mendez and Fabricio Logan will travel to Rochester for the 78th annual NYSSMA event in December.
Mendez, an oboe player, said "I'm definitely looking forward to it."
