Chautauqua Striders provides many program opportunities for students throughout the school year. In northern Chautauqua County, tutoring programs include Westfield and the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County. Support for college entrance exams such as the PSATs, SATs, and ACTs is available at Brocton, Dunkirk, Jamestown, Pine Valley, and Salamanca High Schools and at the organizations's main office. Students are given tips and techniques to enhance confidence in test-taking and overall scores. Call Melissa Dorchak at 488-2203 for more high school tutoring information.
The Chautauqua Striders Mentoring program is available at all Jamestown schools for children in grades 2-12, as well as at Falconer, Southwestern and Dunkirk Central Schools. Since school is now in session, many mentors and mentees have begun their weekly lunch meetings. This interaction provides area adults an opportunity to be an extra source of support and encouragement to a child. Many youth not in the program may recognize the value of a caring adult and request a mentor. Mentoring often changes a child's life as well the mentor's life.
Chautauqua Striders would like to talk to adults who are interested in the program. Volunteers will see first-hand how important time for a child is and what a difference it makes in the life of a local youth. Call 488-2203 today to learn more about Chautauqua Striders Mentoring.
