ALDEN - The Gowanda Lady Panthers ran their way to a second-place finish Saturday at the Alden Bulldog Stampede cross country meet.
Gowanda finished second out of 12 teams with 61 points. Host team Alden took first place with 46 points and Springville rounded out the top three with 85 points.
Colleen Steward was Gowanda's top runner coming in second place with a time of 20:26. Hunter Samuelson finished close behind in a time of 20:42, good for fifth place. Sarah Grubbs came in 12th place at 21:38 while Katelynn Jaroszewski placed 17th at 22:02. Lexi Latona came in 28th with a time of 22:50.
"They ran extremely well today," Gowanda coach Pete Palmer said of his runners. "I was surprised to see Colleen (Steward) and Hunter (Samuelson) finish where they did. It was just a good team effort today."
