Fredonia State extended its winning streak to eight straight matches with a 3-1 women's volleyball win Tuesday over the Medaille Mavericks in Dods Hall.
The Blue Devils (18-8) nearly rallied from a slow start before dropping the first set 25-22. They then took a large early lead, only to hold off the Mavericks 25-18 in the second set, and led from start to finish in winning sets three and four, 25-18 and 25-23.
Senior outside hitter Kaitlin Orcutt led the offense with 10 kills while senior outside hitter/middle blocker Hannah Manning was the most effective hitter with nine kills and only one error in 25 attempts (.320 percentage). Manning added three service aces and seven blocks.
Sophomore setter Kelly Edinger was again the top playmaker with 36 assists. Defensively, Edinger collected 14 digs and four blocks. Sophomore libero Lauren Hokaj had 22 digs, sophomore outside hitter/libero Brittney Kelly added 21 digs and sophomore Paulina Rein finished with 18 digs, plus eight kills on offense.
The Blue Devils are idle for 10 days before returning to SUNYAC competition Oct. 25 vs. Plattsburgh at Geneseo.
