Friday night may be a home-field disadvantage for spectators and players of both the Fredonia and Tonawanda football teams.
Despite weather reports of rain for today and Friday, the plan to go forward with the Fredonia and Tonawanda game in the Orange Bowl, according to the district's Web site, could be a mistake. With the field and surroundings likely to be in poor condition, the event could be a hazard to both team members and those attending the event.
Other options, including a visit to Dunkirk's turf field on Saturday with a rescheduling of soccer games, could be considered for the playoff game. Even Fredonia sports boosters have acknowledged in making pleas for a new sports facility, the current field presents plenty of concerns, especially in the days after wet weather.
Silver Creek's field could even be another option.
But Dunkirk and Fredonia schools already have a partnership with its prekindergarten program. Coming together for a potential option of using Dunkirk's field on Saturday over an already shabby venue is what being good neighbors is all about.
