Mildred M. Schrantz, 90, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home, formerly of 107 King St., both in Dunkirk, and St. Columban's Retirement Home in Silver Creek died Wednesday evening (Nov. 6, 2013) at the Home following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 23, 1923 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Frank and Magdalena (Thering) Schrantz.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Miss Schrantz graduated from Dunkirk High School, Class of 1940.

She worked with her father and sister at the family business, Schrantz's Grocery Store in Dunkirk.
Mildred was the homemaker and gourmet cook for the family. The family Thanksgiving dinners prepared by Mildred were very special.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and its Parish Guild. She formerly worshiped at Sacred Heart Church.
An avid world traveler, Mildred also enjoyed crafts, but is most remembered as a cook who shared her talents with her family.
Mildred is survived by several cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Schrantz.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 4-8 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
