The Fredonia Rotary Club recently honored Devin Kowalewski as student of the month for October.
The daughter of Chris and Deidre Kowalewski, Devin is a senior at Fredonia High School. Education is important to Devin and she has taken advanced placement classes in United States history, literature and composition, calculus, statistics, and physics. She has taken four years of advanced English and is in the top 10 percent of her class. She will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors.
Devin also pursues athletics. She has participated in soccer since the age of 3 and has been a part of the Fredonia Girls' Soccer program since seventh grade. She has played varsity soccer since her freshman year and served as captain in her last high school season. She also runs indoor and outdoor track. In indoor track she holds her school's record in the 55m HH, the 4x400m relay, and triple jump. She hopes to participate in both soccer and track and field in college.
Devin began playing the violin in fourth grade and is a member of the advanced honors music program as well as an all-violin string quartet. She has participated in four FHS musical productions. Membership in clubs and organizations at FHS include: Foreign Language Club, Key Club, and the FHS Chapter of the National Honor Society. She is treasurer of Foreign Language Club. Last year, she was the secretary of the Fredonia chapter of the National Honor Society and this year she is service chairperson.
Last summer, Devin worked for both the Faculty Student Association (FSA) at SUNY Fredonia and for Wendy's. She is taking a break from her position at Wendy's to focus on school but plans to return this summer. When not studying, Devin volunteers with the Key Club or National Honor Society, goes to sports practices, and practices her violin.
After high school, she hopes to attend college at Rochester Institute of Technology to study and pursue a career in chemical engineering.
