SILVER CREEK - Amil C. Manzella, 86, of Silver Creek, passed away suddenly Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 at the TLC Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, NY.
He was born Dec. 16, 1926 in Silver Creek, NY the son of the late Anthony and Jennie (Peora) Manzella.
Amil attended Silver Creek Central School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1945-47. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Vic-tory Medal. He married Connie De Matteo on Sept. 30, 1950 at the Most Precious Blood RC Church in Angola, NY.
Amil spent 40 years working as a meatcutter at Bells Grocery Store in Dunkirk, retiring as a meat manager in January 1989.
A lifelong Silver Creek resident, he was an active and loyal member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek.
Since shortly after his retirement in 1989, he made appearances at nearly every local blood drive. He belongs to the Red Cross Century Club having donated more than 100 pints of blood, 124 pints to be ex-act. "He just liked helping somebody."
He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, the Baltimore Ravens football, Silver Creek Central School athletics and being with his family.
Amil was loving, caring, had an infectious personality and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Connie Manzella, devoted father of three daughters, Ginny (Frank) Bonasera, Sharon (James) Hornburg, both of Silver Creek, NY and Carol (David) Blackford of Cary, NC. Seven grandchildren, Bren-da Conley, Andrea (Cameron) Johnson, Jenna Hornburg, Lindsey (Andrew) Bonasera-Koss, Amy (Dillon) Reece, Jason (Michelle) Bonasera and Ashley Parker. Four great grandchildren, a sister Mary De Marie of Buffalo, NY and Frank Manzella of Boston, MA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Manzella and two sisters, Frances and Josephine Manzella.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY. Interment to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
