GOWANDA - Warren S. Dickinson, age 78, of Prospect St. passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility where he had been convalescing the past 8 days.
Born March 15, 1935 in Silver Creek. An RV Salesman for nearly 30 years, Warren enjoyed Stock Car Racing. He raced at various speedways in Western NY including Johnny's Speedway, Stateline, Arkwright, and The Civic Stadium to name a few. He also enjoyed the Indy 500 and NASCAR. Warren also ran Warrens Collision where he painted and did collision work on many cars. Warren who also was known as Dutch was a self employed contractor, he built many homes in the area including the family residence on Rt. 39.
Warren also enjoyed woodworking and made signs for various businesses in the area he also built fur-niture and was an old tractor buff working on hit and miss engines and enjoyed going to tractor shows. He also was a member of the CB club and a Scout Master for Troup 41 of Gowanda.
As a Child Warren spent a lot of time with his aunt and uncle in North Otto Marcella and Justus Strickland (Johnson). Although they preceded him in death he had fond memories not only of North Otto but also of them and his late father Gerald "Jerry" D. Dickinson.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years the former Hazel Balcom whom he married in the First Presbyterian Church in Gowanda on November 11, 1954. Warren is also survived by his children Denise (David) Ebert of Perrysburg, Debra Dickinson of Gowanda, Doreen (David) Siminski of Springville and Warren "Butch" (Mary) Dickinson of Otto, along with grandchildren Kenny, Steven, Dana, Kristen, Ryan, Andrew, Amanda, Matthew and Justin. 12 great grandchildren also survive.
Besides his father, aunt and uncle, Warren was preceded in death by a granddaughter Michele "Mickey" Wygant (June 23, 2012) and his beloved pet dog Missy.
A private family Graveside Service will be held in the East Hill Cemetery in Otto. Arrangements are by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St. Gowanda (716)-532-4200
