SILVER CREEK - Jordan Brooks' double-double propelled the Silver Creek Black Knights (1-0, 0-0) to their first win of the season with a 41-13 victory over the Westfield Lady Wolverines (0-1, 0-0) Monday in a non-league matchup.
Brooks sat out the majority of the first half after picking up three early fouls and was limited to only four points going into halftime with Silver Creek leading 18-6.
In the second half, Brooks was able to get into a rhythm and single-handedly outscored the Lady Wolverines over the final two periods.
"I think we played very frazzled," Silver Creek coach Tammy Rice said. "We had a ton of turnovers. I didn't expect (the turnovers) to last four quarters. But I think that was because we ran the ball more than usual. (Westfield) pressed us and forced the game to be up-tempo."
Nichole Jimmerson led a stifling Black Knight defense with six steals. As a unit, Silver Creek shutout the Lady Wolverines in the first quarter and held them to six points or fewer in each of the final three periods.
"I'm very proud of how she handled the pressure," Rice said of Jimmerson who was making her first varsity start. "She handled the pressure really well and was able to make some key outside shots for us."
Brooks finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Darrien Spruce added seven points. Cora Utegg grabbed six rebounds and Jade Lewis had nine assists in the victory.
Hannah Truitt and Marissa Okerland led the Lady Wolverines with four points apiece. Okerland also had five rebounds in the loss.
