The Fredonia State swimming and diving teams will play host to the nine-team Blue Devil Invitational this weekend, starting today, in Steele Hall.
In addition to the host team, Potsdam, Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford, Brockport, Allegheny, Wheeling Jesuit, Baldwin Wallace and Oberlin are scheduled to participate.
Championship and consolation finals will consist of eight swimmers in each event. Scoring will be through 16th place with relays contested only once.
Each team will be allowed to enter an unlimited number of swimmers in each event while each individual will be limited to the NCAA championship meet restriction of seven events with a maximum of three individual events during the meet. As a provision, each swimmer will be allowed to enter one extra event as an exhibition.
The meet will consist of five sessions - 4 p.m. today; 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.
Today's only session will have a mix of both preliminaries and finals. Saturday and Sunday's morning sessions will consist of preliminaries in individual events and finals for relays. The evening sessions of will consist of finals in individual events.
According to 11th-year head coach Arthur Wang, "This is the deepest meet we've had. It will be a very competitive field of teams."
