BROCTON - The Pine Valley Lady Panthers (2-1) jumped out to an early 18-4 lead and never looked back on their way to a 70-14 victory over the Brocton Lady Bulldogs (0-1) Monday in non-league girls basketball action.
"We didn't do too bad in the beginning. We broke the press, but then we started throwing the ball all over," Brocton coach Ken Purcell said. "They had 20 steals. We had a lot of bad passes, travels and we threw the ball away. As usual (Pine Valley) played pesky, persistent defense."
Kayla Mansfield and Jamie Wilcox led the Pine Valley attack, each recording 12 points and nine rebounds. Alex Bentham scored a game-high 14 points in the win to go with five assists and four steals. Jesse Wilcox added eight points and four steals.
Jessica Merle had six points and as many rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs in the loss.
Brocton plays its next game Friday in Forestville against the Lady Hornets.
Panama 59, Forestville 27
FORESTVILLE - Emilee Sterry scored a game-high 15 points to life the Panama Lady Panthers over the Forestville Lady Hornets, 59-27, Monday in a non-league girls basketball matchup.
Brittney Marsh contributed 10 points and eight rebounds in the win. Sterry was also active on the boards, pulling down six rebounds to go with her 15 points. Brittney Lenart added 12 points for the Lady Panthers.
Forestville was never able to get its offense going and had only one played record double-digit points. Point guard Amanda Weaver led the team with 10 points. Mackenzie Van Zile had seven points and 11 rebounds while Alisha Szumigala pulled down 16 rebounds in the loss.
Panama will host Chautauqua Lake on Dec. 13 and Forestville's next game will be at home against Brocton Friday night.
