The State University of New York Athletic Conference bestowed weekend swimming and diving awards on two Fredonia State senior student-athletes.
John Estanislau has been named the SUNYAC Men's Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season. Ashley Keller was named SUNYAC Women's Diver of the Week. It was her first award this season, and the third by a Blue Devil.
Estanislau continued his solid first semester with one win, two seconds and contributions on two winning relays during the three-day Blue Devil Invitationals at the Steele Hall Natatorium. The senior's individual win came in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of :52.79. He was second in the 50 freestyle (:21.67) and the 100 freestyle (:47.75). Fredonia State's winning 400 freestyle relay - of which Estanislua was a part - set a Natatorium and Invitational record of 3:09.88. Estanislau also was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay, plus the second-place 800 freestyle relay and the third-place 400 medley relay. The Blue Devils won the nine-team meet with 754.50 points, and Estanislau accounted for 90.5 of those points (including relay point totals divided by four).
Keller was a double-winner, and a double NCAA zone qualifier, at the Blue Devil Invitational held in the Steele Hall Natatorium. She won the 1-meter competition Saturday with an 11-dive score of 440.30 points, then came back Sunday to edge senior teammate Katelyn Haley - 457.90 to 455.60 - off the 3-meter board.
Haley won the SUNYAC award twice earlier this season.
