The Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers varsity hockey team won three games in four nights this week after it beat Niagara Catholic, 8-1, on Wednesday, 4-3 over the Williamsville Stars on Friday and 6-1 over Maryvale on Saturday.
In the Steelers' win on Wednesday, Matt Szalkowski recorded a hat trick while Trevor Grupa, David Woloszyn, Adam Dziduch, Mike Meredith and Connor Graves all had a goal each. Matt Sheridan added three assists while Mike Paradis and Nick Formanowicz had two assists each. Bryce Gifford, Dziduch, Riley Harris and Mike Meredith also recorded a helper while Jared Hebner picked up the win between the pipes.
On Friday night, the Steelers went into the third period down 3-1, but were able to pull off the comeback with goals from Formanowicz and Kyle Leysath, who scored the game-tying goal with the Steelers' goalie pulled from the net and a Stars' player in the penalty box.
Then, with 6.6 seconds left in regulation, Ryan Sheldon added the game-winner, as Dunkirk-Fredonia completed the comeback.
Sheridan had a pair of assists while Leysath and Formanowicz assisted on the game-winning goal. Hebner, again, was the winning goalie.
On Saturday, the Steelers received goals from Sheridan, Szalkowski, Sheldon, Leysath, Formanowicz and Ryan Meredith, with assists going to Leysath (two), Mike Johnson, Sheridan, Mike Meredith, Woloszyn, Paradis and Formanowicz. Hebner picked up the win between the pipes.
Dunkirk-Fredonia is back in action this coming weekend when it hosts Pioneer-Springville on Saturday at noon and St. Joe's at 1:45 p.m., on Sunday. Both games are at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
