OBSERVER Staff Report
An alleged cocaine dealer was taken into custody Christmas Day.
According to the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Daniel Melendez, 27, of Franklin Avenue, Dunkirk, was arrested Wednesday. Officers of the Dunkirk Police Department located Melendez who was wanted on an outstanding Chautauqua County Grand Jury indictment warrant charging him with multiple counts third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
Melendez had been indicted after Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley's office presented information from members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force alleging that he has possessed and sold quantities of cocaine to agents of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. All of these incidents happened in the City of Dunkirk.
He was taken without incident, brought to the Dunkirk City Jail and then subsequently transported to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail pending his arraignment before Chautauqua County Court Judge John T. Ward at later date.
This arrest culminates an investigation into cocaine trafficking in the city of Dunkirk by Melendez that has been on going over the past several months.
