COLLINS - With the amount of recent snow the area has gotten lately, the Collins Town Board is praising the town highway department for their efforts of snow removal. Deputy Supervisor Mary Clark commended the department.
"Our highway department has done an outstanding job keep our town roads (clean)," Clark said.
Clark, who ran the meeting in Supervisor David Tessmer's absence, said she had driven to the Buffalo area recently and roads within the town of Collins were the best kept in the county in her opinion. Also due to the snow, the town board approved various budget transfers.

The board approved transfers including $4,456 from the highway part town personal services line to the snow contractual - gas line in the amount of $72 and the snow contractual - salt line in the amount of $4,384; transferring $10,146 from the snow contractual line to snow contractual - salt line; and moving $16,770 from the highway part town contractual line to snow contractual - salt line in the amount of $5,198 and county contractual - salt line in the amount of $11,571.
The town also approved a change order for the L.K. Painter Community Center for the masonry restoration in the amount of $5,400. This change order will cover replacement of deteriorated window lintels. The board also approved a change order for the window replacement project at LKPCC to extend the contract by 45 days for substantial completion and by 60 days for final completion to Feb. 3 and Feb. 18, respectively. Five special use dog kennel permits were also approved following a public hearing.
To conclude the final meeting of the year, the town board reflected on 2013. This year, the town was awarded $100,000 in CDBG funding for the LKPCC, including the masonry and window repairs and installing a backup generator; updating the building permit fee schedule; hiring a part-time water department employee; replace the roof at the town hall; hosting the third annual Liberty Fest; replacing and upgrading fence at the Collins Town Park, and updating the tank monitoring system in Water District 1, among others.
