Mary Frances Christy, 63, of Moon Township, PA passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 surrounded by family and friends.
Born January 20, 1950 in Fredonia, NY, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Theresa Chiro. Mary was a graduate of SUNY Fredonia with a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and taught in the Erie school district before moving to Moon in 1979. For the past 13 years, she was employed by Black Box Corporation.
Mary was proud of her Italian heritage and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed being active in the community and in her children's lives. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Parish for many years. She made frequent trips to her hometown in Western NY and helped to organize Fredonia High School reunions, including the 45th reunion this past summer. Mary also enjoyed playing cards, collecting I Love Lucy memorabilia, and Steelers parties with friends.
Mary battled ovarian cancer since 2003 and bravely fought the disease for over a decade.
Mary is survived by son, Brian Peter Christy (Angela Kipper fiancee) of Saint Clair Shores, MI; daughter Carlin Christy of Pittsburgh, PA; several aunts, cousins and close friends.
Friends will be received Friday, January 10, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m. that friends are welcome to participate in at Copeland Moon Twp. Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road, Coraopolis, PA where prayers will be recited Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Mary Church.
