Dunkirk and Fredonia's indoor track and field athletes competed at the Section 6 9th and 10th Grade Championships Saturday afternoon at Fredonia State.
For the Dunkirk girls, Faith Rivera finished first in the 9th grade high jump with her height of 4-feet, 6-inches while also taking fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.89 seconds.
Also for the Lady Marauders in the 9th-grade events, Julia Fred was ninth in the 1,000 in 4:06.03, Ashley Olrogg was ninth in the 600 in 2:14.40 and Emily Hanlon was sixth in the long jump with her leap of 13-8. The 4x200 relay team of Hanlon, Rivera, Elisa Rodriguez and Fred finished fourth in a time of 2:06.80.
In the 10th-grade events, Dunkirk's Amancia Viera was first in the shot put with her throw of 30-2 while Samantha Hemenger was second in the triple jump in 29-8 3/4. Hemenger also took sixth in the long jump (13-9 1/2) and helped the 4x200 relay team finish second in a time of 2:06.72. Joining Hemenger on the team were Savia Moreland, Natalie Nytz and Hayleigh Sanchez.
Moreland placed fifth in the 55 hurdles in a time of 10.38 seconds and fifth in the 55 in a time of 8.37 seconds while Nytz was ninth in the 300 (:55.02) and sixth in the 600 (2:18.12).
In the boys' 10th-grade events, Miguel Alicea was second in the 300 in 40.31 seconds and eighth in the 55 in 7.25 seconds while Julio Cheverz was fourth in the 300 in a time of 40.66 seconds.
Also for the Marauders, John Collazo was eighth in the 1,000 in a time of 3:28.38, Ben Tarnowski was ninth in the long jump in 16-2 1/2 and Collazo 10th with his height of 15-7 1/2.
Alex Montalban, Alicea, Collazo and Cheberz helped Dunkirk's 4x200 relay team to a third-place finish in a time of 1:48.74 while the 4x400 team finished fourth in a time of 5:07.29. Tarnowski, Jonah Rosas, Mike Rodriquez and Kelvin Valentine were the quartet that comprised that team.
Meanwhile, for Fredonia, Gwen Stokes took first in the 10th-grade 1,000 in a time of 3:32.27 and third in the high jump at 4-11. Also for the Lady Hillbillies, Georgie Gens was fifth in the 9th-grade long jump with her leap of 13-11 1/2 while Kate Fiorella was eighth at 13-3. Maitland Langworth was fourth in the 10th-grade 600 in a time of 2:12.23.
For the Fredonia boys, Andrew Amatuzzo was third in the 10th-grade long jump (18-2 1/2) while teammate Kyle Engel was sixth with his leap of 16-10 1/2.
