Charles F. Reading, 94, of Sequoia Drive in Brocton, NY passed away Tuesday morning January 14, 2014 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY with his loving family by his side.
He was born Nov. 11, 1919 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of the late Charles M. and Alvina Eckert Reading Motto. He had lived in Brocton since 1959, moving here from Dunkirk, NY.
Charles was a Mill Hand for AL Tech Steel Plant of Dunkirk, NY, retiring from there in 1982. He was a former member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was also a former Committee Member and past Board Member of The Jamestown Resource Center.
He was a member of Brocton Portland Senior Citizens where he and his wife Dorothy organized numerous bus trips for the group. He also belonged to the Cassadaga Senior Citizens. Charles was also a member of the Brocton Baptist Church of Brocton, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Dorothy, whom he married on May 27, 1944. He is also survived by one son Melvin (Janet) Reading of Medina, Ohio; three grandchildren Kim (Todd) Graves, Kevin (Audrey) Reading, and Jason (Alisha) Reading; six great grandchildren, Maegan and Bryen Graves, Kimberlynn and Patrick Reading and Jacob and Jackson Reading; daughter-in-law Sharon Reading; stepgrandchildren Jeanette Fitzgerald, Chris Moore and Carl Moore; step great-grandchildren Nolan and Lyric Moore; four sisters Aileen Barone of Fredonia, NY, Margarite Gould of Bemus Point, NY, Geraldine Galafaro of Texas and Betty Jackson of Dewittville, NY; and two brothers, Richard Reading of Brocton, NY and Gerald Motto of Dunkirk, NY.
Charles was predeceased by one son, Carl Reading; two daughters, Patricia Reading and Sharon Read-ing; one sister, Harriet Norris; and two brothers, Valentine Reading and Walter Motto.
Funeral Services will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. from the Brocton, Baptist Church 33 West Main Street, Brocton, NY. The Rev Larry Morrison will officiate. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery in Dunkirk, New York. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave, Brocton, New York on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9.
