Rep. Tom Reed announced today upwards of $5 million to be obligated for Lake Shore Hospital, funding Reed secured for the hospital through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Reed spoke with the FEMA Regional Administrator for New York by phone Wednesday who assured Reed the FEMA application for disaster funds has been approved as of today.
"The funding we've secured is a huge positive development for the hospital and more importantly its long-term viability," Reed said. "The confirmed funding will make the hospital more attractive in the long run for potential investors and buyers, making the likelihood of the hospital remaining in our community that much more of a reality."
Reed has been keeping pressure on FEMA to approve funds to the TLC Hospital Network in response to damage caused by severe flooding in 2009. A major employer in the area, Reed's goal is to keep the jobs in Chautauqua County and ensure families are not prevented from receiving critical care close to home.
The official announcement from FEMA is expected later today.
