Robert P. Layman, 72, of Forestville died Thursday evening (Jan. 16, 2014) at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.
He was born April 30, 1941 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Peter and Mildred (Pienta) Layman.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Layman was a graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School, Class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1961.
He had been employed by Niagara Mohawk in Dunkirk.
He was member of the Moniuszko and Dom Polski clubs and a life member of the First Ward Falcon Club.
Mr. Layman was a happy loving man. He enjoyed playing baseball, sports, camping, and entertaining. He loved food. He took great pride in his family.
Bob was a foster parent and a loving father. He will be remembered for his smile, outgoing personality, sense of humor and generosity.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Eggleston) Layman; five daughters, Cristal (Mathias) Schrantz of Dunkirk, Lisa (Ken) Kail of Berlin, Md., Nicole (Anthony) Willis of Jeffersonville, Ind., Emily Layman of Dunkirk and Miranda Layman of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Eileen Ronska of Florida; eight grandchildren; and two nephews.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Raymond Donohue will officiate. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pet Pantry, 16 East Howard Ave., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
