William W. Rys, 71, of Dunkirk, died suddenly Wednesday evening (January 22, 2014), at Brooks Memorial Hospital. Born December 25, 1942 in Dunkirk, he was the son of Walter and Helen (Kondzielski) Rys. A veteran of the US Air Force as Sergeant from 1966-70, Mr. Rys served in England. Afterward, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He retired as bank
manager for Fleet Bank/Norstar in Yorkshire, NY, and in the past owned and operated Bill Rys Motors in Dunkirk. Along with spending time with his family, Bill also enjoyed drag racing, muscle cars, and had an interest in transportation, including a vast collection of airline
and railroad memorabilia, as well as a model railroad collection. He also had his commercial pilot's license, and ran a flying club while

living in Nebraska. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R. C. Church. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Gnadzinski) Rys, whom he married February 8, 1964; their son, William W. Rys II of Dunkirk; and a brother Kevin J. (Pamela) Rys of Middletown, NY. Many
nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk today from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with funeral services to commence at 11 o'clock with the Rev. Ray Donohue officiating. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Ceme-tery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to
be made to the Dunkirk Historical Society, 513 Washington Ave, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
