EL PASO, Texas - John A. Cerrito, 68, formerly of Fredonia, NY passed away early Wednesday morning (Jan. 29, 2014) at Trisun Care Center of El Paso after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Zeals (Wiltshire) England on Feb. 23, 1945, the son of Joseph A. and Kathleen (Portnell) Cerrito. He and his mother arrived in the United States in 1946 and resided in Laona and Fredonia until the mid-'70s when John moved to El Paso.
John graduated in 1962 from Fredonia High School. He joined the United States Air Force in 1963, serving in the Military Airlift Command until his honorable discharge in 1967. After serving his country, he received an associate's degree from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in 1972 and a BA in accounting from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1979.
He worked for several companies in Texas throughout his career in accounting and retired from J.H. Livingston Inc. in 2012. He had a wonderful relationship with them and considered his former boss, Sam (Kathryn) Livingston and his co-workers his family.
John was predeceased by his parents; brother-in-law Bruce Graves; and a great nephew, Bryce Halen Graves of Fredonia.
He is survived by his sisters, Catherine Graves of Fredonia, Beverly (Doug) Gilbert of Hornell and Susan (Jim) Dillenburg of Forestville; a niece and five nephews; and a great-niece and five great-nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Alta Pierce of El Paso and a very dear family friend, Diana Leyva of Sunland Park, NM. Also many cousins and close friends from both Fredonia and the El Paso area.
A Memorial Service will be held in Fredonia at a later date. Memorial contributions in John's memory can be made to the American Legion, Fredonia, NY. Funeral arrangements are by San Jose Funeral Home, El Paso, Texas and McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, Dunkirk, NY.
