On Friday from 5-7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., local Girl Scouts are holding a craft supply roundup at Camp Gross at 8175 Route 60, in Cassadaga.
This event is an opportunity to get craft supplies out of closets and into the hands of children. Many people have a few craft supplies around the house, a little of this and a little of that. A person might have a few buttons, maybe some beads, perhaps some yarn. One part of the event is to bring items. The other part is for people to come and take away the materials to use with youth programs. It doesn't matter what kind of program it is - scouts, youth groups, clubs and art students. The supplies will be sorted and free for the taking.
In addition to the craft supply roundup on Saturday there will be a Girl Scout registration event in conjunction with a winter snow day at Camp Gross. There will be nature walks and hikes, sledding, snowman building and lots of other outdoor activities for registered scouts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch and hot chocolate will be provided. The cost is $10 per girl and adults are always FREE. The fee covers all supplies and lunch. Remember to dress for the outdoors. Wear a warm coat, snow pants, hat, gloves, scarves, boots and a sled if you have one.
Girl Scouts from Brocton, Cassadaga, Dunkirk and Fredonia enjoy a fall campout at Camp Gross in Cassadaga. On Saturday, the scouts will have a winter snow day at camp. Call Marie Tomlinson at 679-7145.
Registered Girl Scouts have many programs open to them. There will be a craft day Feb. 23 at St. Joseph's Parish cafeteria and an overnight to the Aquarium of Niagara on March 1.
