William C. Vacanti, 87, of Dunkirk died Tuesday evening (Feb. 4, 2014) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk.
He was born Dec. 28, 1926 in Dunkirk, the son of the late William and Laura (Trippi) Vacanti.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Vacanti served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had been employed as a steelworker at AL Tech Specialty Steel in Dunkirk.
He was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity Church. An avid pool player, he also enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Bresolin) Vacanti, whom he married April 29, 1950 in Holy Trinity Church; five children, Linda (James) Daniel of Cheektowaga, Susan Graves of Fredonia, Gary (Cheryl) Vacanti of Brocton, Sharon (Joseph) Kowalczyk of Wheatfield and Paula (Jeffrey) Catalano of Clayton, NC; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in Holy Trinity Church. Calling hours will be held Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
