Helen E. Lee, 91, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home, Temple Road, Dunkirk, formerly of Forestville, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her residence.
She was born in Hamburg on November 3, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Helen (Hessler) Stanage. She was a graduate of Hamburg High School, Class of 1940 and a graduate of Buffalo State in 1944.
Mrs. Lee worked as an Elementary School Teacher at Buffalo Public School Buffalo, for 32 years, teaching at Schools 53, 31, and 56. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church Forestville, where she was a former Director of Education and won the St. Joseph's worker award from the Diocese of Buffalo and was a retired member of the Buffalo Teacher's Federation. Mrs. Lee loved traveling and sewing.
Survivors include a son, Perry H. (Linney) Lee, Jr., of Frankfurt, KY, a daughter, Mary Ellen Deck-er, of Dunkirk and two sisters, Ann Schaller, of Oregon and Ethel Wilson, of California. Also surviving are six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Perry H. Lee whom she had been married to for 58 years and who died October 31, 2002 and by an infant son Charles Lee.
There will be no visitation observed. A Memorial Mass will be held from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville at a later date. Time and day to be announced. Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Prospect Lawn Cemetery, Hamburg.
