SINCLAIRVILLE - The Cassadaga Valley Cougars (11-6, 7-4) are using free-throw shooting to their advantage lately and it paid off again Tuesday as they held off the Westfield Wolverines (9-8, 6-5), 58-49, in CCAA West II boys high school basketball.
Over the last five games, the Cougars are shooting nearly 70 percent from the charity stripe. The team went 17 of 25 Monday while Westfield connected on just seven.
"The kids have been shooting lights out from the foul line," Cassadaga Valley coach Rich Clifford said. "Our gameplan lately has been attack the basket and get to the free throw line."

Senior Mike Lancaster had an all-around solid performance with 17 points - nine of which came from the foul line - 13 rebounds and four assists.
The Wolverines took a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Cougars responded by taking a 28-24 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Cassadaga Valley outscored the visitors, 13-7, for a 41-31 lead heading into the final frame.
Cody Johnson had 25 points and nine rebounds for the winners while Kyle Ruge had 11 points, two assists and five steals for the Cougars.
Tanner Dahl had a solid game for the Wolverines with 23 points while Steve DeMarco had 10 points in a losing effort.
Cassadaga Valley travels to Panama on Thursday.
Panama 58, Brocton 48
BROCTON - David Odell had 12 points and six rebounds to help Panama past Brocton (1-15, 0-12), 58-48, on Tuesday, during CCAA West II boys basketball action.
The Panthers jumped out to a 18-10 lead after the first quarter and held a 35-24 lead at the break. Brocton bounced back in the second half, outscoring Panama, 24-23, but the Bulldogs were unable to close the gap and pick up their first league win of the year.
Chris Blose added 10 points for the Panthers in the win while Dillon Mescall had nine points and Dan Odell seven points.
Macalum Buchanan had a game-high 16 points for the Bulldogs while Aaron Riforgiato had nine points and Bryen Graves a game-high 10 rebounds to go with four points.
