On Feb. 6, Theta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Joyce Anderson in Mayville. Mary Rogers and Rose VanVolkenburg were co-hostesses for the evening.
Anderson presented her program "Medicine-Pacemakers." She explained that a person who has good cholesterol levels and normal blood pressure still may be a candidate for a pacemaker. If the heart's electrical components that control the speed and rhythm of the heart beats are misfiring, then a pacemaker is needed. Members received heart pins to signify that February is American Heart month.
Following the program, Nancy Palmer presided at the business meeting. The Service Committee discussed the Spring Fling Party for the Mayville Senior Apartments; the donation for the Beta Sigma Phi Endowment Fund for Breast Cancer; the April Easter egg hunt at the Sherman Fire Hall; and the Agnes Home project in May.
The Social Committee finalized plans for crowning Theta Beta's 2014 Queen during a dinner at the Landmark Restaurant on Feb. 15. The Ways and Means Committee has tabled the spring fundraiser. Mary Rogers read from the Beta Sigma Phi Book on "How Chapters Are Named."
Concluding the business meeting secret sister Valentine gifts were exchanged. Refreshments were served with Inta Damcott winning the white elephant.
Joan Wahl will be the hostess for the next meeting on Feb. 20, 2014.
