The Section 6 boys and girls basketball playoff seedings were announced Saturday and both the Fredonia boys and Fredonia girls garnered No. 1 seeds in their respective Class B-1 brackets while Pine Valley (16-2) was the top seed in the girls' Class D tournament.
The boys, who finished 14-4 overall and 10-0 in CCAA West I action, will play the winner of the prequarterfinal game played between No. 9 Newfane (6-12) and No. 8 Bennett (6-12), which is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19. The Hillbillies will meet the winner on Friday, Feb. 21, at home at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Lady Hillbillies (12-6) will square off against either No. 9 Olean (7-9) or No. 8 CSAT (10-8), who will play on Tuesday, in a prequarterfinal matchup in Buffalo. Fredonia will host the winner on Thursday, at 7 p.m.
Dylan Meyer (22) and the Fredonia Hillbillies earned the top seed in the Class B-1 boys’ basketball playoffs and will host either No. 8 Bennett, or No. 9 Newfane, on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m.
The Lady Panthers will have to wait to play until the semifinals, which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, when they will play either No. 5 Ellicottville (9-8) or No. 4 Sherman (12-4) at Chautauqua Lake.
Elsewhere, in boys action, No. 13 Dunkirk (4-14) will travel to take on No. 12 Alden (6-12), on Tuesday in a Class B-1 game, while in Class B-2, Gowanda (10-8) will host No. 15 da Vinci (0-15).
In Class C-1, No. 4 Silver Creek (10-8) will host No. 5 Tapestry Charter (11-7), on Friday, Feb. 21, and No. 7 Cassadaga Valley (11-7) will square off against No. 2 OTC Middle College (13-5), at Erie Community College. Also on Friday, No. 6 Westfield (9-9) travels to do battle with No. 3 Randolph (12-6). No. 8 Chautauqua Lake (6-12) kicks off the action in Class C-2 when it hosts No. 9 Global Concepts (4-13), on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
No. 8 North Collins (1-15) drew the short straw and will take on No. 1 Sherman (17-1), No. 5 Pine Valley (6-12) travels to take on No. 4 Ellicottville (10-8) and No. 2 Forestville (10-8) hosts No. 7 West Valley (3-14) in Class D action on Friday.
No. 8 Lake Shore (6-12) hosts No. 9 Riverside (5-13) in a Class A-2 game on Wednesday.
The Class AA, A-1, A-2, overall A, B-1, B-2 and overall B title games will all be held at Buffalo State, beginning with the Class B-2 game at noon. The Class B-1 game is scheduled for 1:45 p.m., and will be followed by the Class A-2 game at 3:30, the Class A-1 game at 6:30 and the Class AA game at 8:15. The overall Class B title game will be held there at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, March 4, and will be followed by the overall Class A title game at 8:30.
The Class C-1, C-2 and overall Class C title game, along with the Class D title game, will be held at Jamestown Community College. The Class C-1, C-2 and D championship games will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, beginning with the Class D game at 5:30 p.m. The Class C-2 game will follow at 7, with the Class C-1 game finishing off the night with a scheduled 8:30 start.
In other girls' action, No. 13 Dunkirk (1-17) will look to salvage a disappointing season when it travels to take on No. 4 Bennett (8-9) in a Class B-1 prequarterfinal matchup that is scheduled for Tuesday. A win by the Lady Marauders would earn them the right to take on the winner of the game between No. 12 Medina and No. 5 Eden.
In Class B-2 action, No. 9 Gowanda (6-12) will travel to take on No. 8 Oracle Charter, on Tuesday, in a prequarterfinal game that is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. If the Lady Panthers win, they will travel to take on top-seeded Wilson (16-2) on Thursday.
On Thursday, No. 4 Silver Creek (13-5) will host No. 5 Barker (8-9) in a Class C-1 matchup while No. 7 Cassadaga Valley (1-16) takes on No. 2 Tapestry Charter (14-3). Despite only losing one game this season, Chautauqua Lake (16-1) earned just the No. 4 spot in the Class C-2 bracket and will host No. 5 Franklinville (13-5) on Thursday in quarterfinal action. No. 7 Westfield (3-15) travels to take on No. 2 Randolph (16-2) that same night.
In other Class D action, No. 7 North Collins (2-15) travels to take on No. 2 Clymer on Thursday, Feb. 20, in quarterfinal action.
The Class A-1, A-2, B-1 and B-2 title games will be held at Buffalo State on Sunday, March 2. The Class A-1 game will kick-off the afternoon schedule at 1 p.m., and will be followed by the A-2 game at 3, the B-1 game at 5 and the B-2 game at 7. The AA championship game is scheduled to be played at Buffalo State on Wednesday, March 5, at 8 p.m.
The Class C-2 title game will be played at JCC on Saturday, March 1, at 2:45 p.m., while the Class D game will be played on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m., at Jamestown High School. The time and location for the Class C-1 title game has yet to be determined.
