William Dale Batts, age 82, of Ripley, NY, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.
He was born on March 8, 1931 to the late Merle and Josephine Boesch Batts.
William attended Ripley High School and then served in the United States Air Force. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Ripley Highway Department for 30 years until retirement and then worked in several grape vineyards throughout the Ripley area.
William enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elwin and Elmer Batts; and sisters, Beatrice Perkins, Muriel Batts, Mary Pierson and Ellen Pajersky.
William is survived by his wife of 59 years Jeannette M. Schuster Batts, whom he married October 30, 1954; his children, William M. Batts (Marsha) of Ripley and Linda M. Bourne (Da-vid) of Westfield; grandchildren, William Batts Jr. (Denise) of Rochester, NY, Nicholas Batts (Jackie) of San Diego, Calif., Christina Black (Robert) of Westfield and David Bourne III (fiance Ashlie) of Westfield; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Casey, Will, Sam, Jake and Garrett; sisters, Violet Wentz of Erie, Charlotte Steele of North East and Josephine Coburn of Jamestown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East, Pa., on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. Private interment will be at Quincy Cemetery.
