Dunkirk Harbor Waterfowl Watch Saturday
Buffalo Audubon Society will host a Waterfowl Watch at Dunkirk Harbor on Saturday at 9 a.m. Join Buffalo Audubon Naturalist Tom Kerr for a 2-hour look at the congregation of diverse waterfowl at one of Lake Erie's important bird areas. Participants should meet at the Central Avenue Pier in Dunkirk.

Brocton universal pre-k and kindergarten
registration to begin
Brocton Elementary School will issue registration packets for students eligible for the universal pre-k and kindergarten classes for the 2014-15 school year on March 10 through March 14 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Along with the completed packets a copy of a birth certificate, documented immunization records, and proof of residency are required.
To be eligible for pre-k children must turn 4 on or before Dec. 1, 2014. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must turn 5 on or before Dec. 1, 2014. If there are questions, call 792-2100.
Chautauqua County Certified Food Handler Class March 24
The next Chautauqua County Certified Food Handler Class will be held March 24 at the Chau-tauqua County Office of Emergency Services, Train-ing Room 1, 2 Academy St. (Old Mayville High School), Mayville. Use the rear entrance facing the south parking lot next to the bus garage.
Registration & sign-in is 12:30 p.m. Class is from 1 to 4 p.m. Preregistration is required. Call 753-4693 to register. Cost is $35 for profit/$20 non-profit.

Daniel A. Reed Library at SUNY Fredonia, in cooperation with the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System and the National Endow-ment for the Arts, is pleased to announce that the poetry of Emily Dickinson has been selected for this year's Big Read.
On Saturday, join the Barker Library Book Club for a discussion of Dickinson's art, her life and times. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Family Open Swim next two Fridays at Dunkirk High pool
The Dunkirk City Schools announces two sessions of Family Open Swim on Friday and March 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. $2 per person.
Each session is limited to 80 swimmers. No food or drink in the pool, balcony or locker room area allowed. Outside pool toys, athletic equipment, balls and noodles are prohibited.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host informational session
The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road in Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m. CJC provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries as well as high school equivalency classes to those in need of a diploma.
The Academy will accept young adults, age 16-24, who are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career. Applicants can apply for on-center living or non-residential status, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted.

The last few left are available on a first-come first-serve basis, so those who missed getting one over the holidays have their final chance to pick up. Calendars are $10 each and feature a different picture and description for each month of the year.
