A 44-year-old Angola man received serious but non-life threatening injuries Saturday after hitting a utility pole on Route 5 & 20 in Irving. According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, around 10:45 p.m., George Murray of North Main Street, Angola, was eastbound when he left the south side of the roadway for no apparent reason. The vehicle struck a snowbank and continued on until striking the utility pole, shearing the pole in half. Murray was flown by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for his injuries. Charges are pending. The Irving and Silver Creek fire departments and Alstar Ambulance also responded to the scene.
