A blizzard warning, which is in effect for today, has led to numerous school closings this morning.
Brocton, Cassadaga Valley, Dunkirk, Fredonia, Gowanda, Northern Chautauqua Catholic School, Silver Creek and Westfield schools had announced by 6:15 a.m. that their districts would be closed. Organizations, including Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels, were also taking precautions by not delivering meals due to the expected hazardous weather conditions being forecast.
SUNY Fredonia canceled all afternoon classes and activities.
Motorists on Central Avenue in Dunkirk dealt with snow that was becoming heavier during the late morning hours.
BOCES Loguidice Center, Forestville Central, Pine Valley Central and St. Joseph's School in Gowanda have also canceled classes. JCC North has canceled all classes and activities after 11 a.m.
The Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce, which had been scheduled to meet today at 4 p.m., has postponed its meeting until later this month.
Snow accumulations up to 14 to 20 inches are expected by this evening with high winds. A wind-chill warning takes effect later this evening.
