Catalino Rivera Melendez, age 97, of King Street, Dunkirk, NY died Tuesday (April 1, 2014) at the Absolut of Dunkirk.
He was born on May 13, 1916 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Bidal Rivera and Victoria Melendez.
A resident of Dunkirk for the past 40 years, Catalino was a retired Mason. He was a member of Assembly of Christian Churches - Iglesia Pentecostal.
Surviving are his wife, Carmen Rivera; his sons, Daniel Rivera and Israel Rivera, both of Dunkirk; Manuel Rivera of New York City, NY and Samuel Rivera of Puerto Rico; a daughter, Isabel Morales of Dunkirk; a brother, Pablo Rivera Melendez of Puerto Rico; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Home Inc. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Assembly of Christian Churches - Iglesia Pentecostal, 316 Eagle St., Dunkirk, NY. Pastor Juan Rosado will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
