Hula Hooping offered at SCCS
It's time to get out of the house and move that body. Join us at Silver Creek Central for Hula Hooping classes. Come learn the basics of waist, hip and chest hooping, and maybe a few more tricks. Hoops are available to use during class.

Chautauqua County Genealogical Society to host research
seminar April 26
The Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will host a seminar focusing on researching Family History on April 26. The event will help people learn more about various free, online resources that can be used when researching their own family history. It will also provide important things to know when doing online research. Featured speakers include research specialist Rhonda Konig from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library and Norman Carlson from the Fenton Historical Society in Jamestown.
The daylong event will be run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk on April 26 and will include morning refreshments and a lunch buffet. Ellington Fire Dept. blood drive April 12
Ellington Fire Department will hold a blood drive April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donors will be entered into a drawing for a 4-pack of theme park tickets. For details, go to Community Blood Bank website.
Silver Creek budget public hearing Monday
A public hearing to present the village of Silver Creek's 2014-2015 tentative budget will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the village hall. The regular meeting of the village board will follow at 7 p.m.
Regional College Fair will be held at SUNY Fredonia on April 9
SUNY Fredonia and the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling will host a NYSACAC Regional College Fair on April 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the SUNY Fredonia Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
The event is free and high school students are especially encouraged to attend. College students, community members, faculty and staff are also welcome.
Representatives of more than 60 colleges will be attending and there will also be a financial aid presentation during the event. The event is planned to serve as a helpful source to start planning for college.

Chicken barbecue benefits Hanover Little League
The Silver Creek Firemen's Club will sponsor a chicken barbecue to benefit the Hanover Little League on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until sold out at the club at 23 Jackson St., Silver Creek. Pre-sale tickets are $8.50 and can be purchased by contacting Liz VanCheri at 934-4262, Caroline Mullen at 432-4002, Bob Bradigan at 965-2696 or Tammy Bartlett at 672-9126. Pre-sale orders will be held until 3 p.m. Tickets will be $9 at the door and there is a choice to eat-in or take-out. There will also be a basket raffle, prize drawings and a 50/50 raffle.
and Basket Raffle Fundraiser April 12
The Sheridan Historical Society is preparing for its Spring Auction and Basket Raffle Fundraiser to be held April 12 at the Town of Sheridan Community Center. The basket raffle and auction preview will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the auction beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available.
The society is seeking donations of furniture, collectibles, tools, household and other items of interest (no appliances or clothing.) Anyone interested in donating items for the auction or a basket, call 672-2201 for further information. SHS is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code with contributions deductible under section 170. All proceeds fund the efforts of the SHS to "cultivate a greater knowledge and appreciation of the history of Sheridan, New York."
