GOWANDA - Floyd H. Sharp, age 90, of Skinner Hollow Road, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born April 23, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late Floyd and Ethel (Hazen) Sharp.
A United States Army Veteran, Floyd honorably served his country from 1942 to 1945. After being discharged from the service, Floyd married the former Rose Betts. They were married in Scranton, Pa., Nov. 3, 1949. Rose passed away Feb. 14, 2010.
Floyd enjoyed carpentry and leatherworking. He and Rose enjoyed going to flea markets and craft shows.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Wilson, Linda (Tom Szyminski) Sharp, Margaret (Gary) Blair, and Ethel Sharp. He was the grandfather of nine grandchildren and the great-grandfather of several great-grandchildren. Floyd is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Ellis, along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, Floyd was preceded in death by brothers Frank, William, Albert, Vernon, Oscar and Albert Sharp and sisters Janet Smith, Celia Darling, and Pearl Sharp.
Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda, (716) 532-4200, from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, where funeral services will follow at 12 noon Friday, April 11, with full Military honors. Interment to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Gowanda, where Floyd will be laid to rest next to his wife Rose.
