MAYVILLE - Paul D. Palmer, 69, of Magnolia Stedman Road, Mayville, died Sunday (April 6, 2014) in WCA Hospital in Jamestown.
He was born April 10, 1944 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of the late Lester and Irene Ranney Palmer.
Paul was a veteran serving with the U.S. Navy for eight active years and 21 years in the retired reserves. Paul had been a chief with Independence Court of Erie, retiring in June 2005. He was a former Chautauqua County Deputy Sheriff and he had also been a former Animal Control Officer for the Town of Chautauqua.
He was a member of the William L. Travis American Legion in Mayville, of which he was a former commander. He was also a life member of the Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post VFW in Mayville.
Paul enjoyed NASCAR, watching wrestling, boating, motorcycling, bluegrass music, citizen band radios and animals, especially his dogs.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Ayling Palmer, whom he married April 15, 1989 in Concord, NC; two daughters, Samantha Palmer of Jamestown and Rachel Palmer of Mayville; three grandchildren, Trent Phillips, Joseph Piazza and Mary Piazza; and one brother, Lester (Mary Ann) Palmer.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Freay Funeral Home.
