Reservation fire chars 60 acres of forest

April 21, 2014
Observer Today

Around 60 acres of trees off Route 438 in Versailles were burned Saturday evening after a fire tore through the area. According to responding crews, the fire was hard to get at since it was about a mile off the road, forcing firefighters to use all-terrain vehicles to get to it instead of fire trucks. First responders included the Versailles, Gowanda and Cattaraugus Indian Reservation fire departments, as well as the Gowanda Police Department and the Seneca Nation Marshals.
