Dyngus Day’s Polish Queen

April 23, 2014
Observer Today

Over 125 local seniors gathered at the Dunkirk Senior Center to celebrate Dyngus Day. The party featured the Kokomo Band, an ice cream social and prize drawings. Special guest Bruce Tarnowski was on hand to carry on his father's (Chester Tarnowski) and the Dyngus Day tradition by gently hitting the ladies in attendance with pussy willows. The group also honored Barbara Bajdas (above) by electing her as the Polish Queen. The slogan on a T-shirt hanging by the entrance accurately wrapped up the spirit of the day, "Dyngus Day is a Polish Woodstock."
