The Dunkirk Marauders (5-3, 4-1) held an 8-1 lead late in the game, but the Silver Creek Black Knights came storming back before ultimately falling short by a score of 8-7 in CCAA West I baseball action Monday.
With the bases loaded in the seventh inning, and holding a one-run lead, Dunkirk's Tyreek Ruiz entered the game for a high-pressure save situation and delivered to seal the victory.
The save gives Ruiz, who is only a freshman, three on the season and helped earn the Marauders their fifth win in a row.

"Ruiz is just a freshman, but he enjoys the roll of coming in late," Dunkirk coach Frank Jagoda. "He took a ground ball off of his finger tip late in the game and I didn't know if he would even be able to come in (to pitch). There was an error in that final inning, but he kept his composure. He came in last week for two saves, threw very well against Falconer in a start and has build a lot of confidence in him with his teammates."
Sam Pepe earned the win with five innings pitched, allowing three hits and one run with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Zack Crandall had two RBIs in the win while Devaun Farnham-DeJesus (two RBI) and Jaziah Rivera (double, two stolen bases and two runs) each contributed on offense.
Nick Iskra took the loss on the mound, but added three hits, including a double, on offense.
Dunkirk will travel to Southwestern on Wednesday.
