Richard J. "Dick" Carr, 64, of Dunkirk died Monday (April 28, 2014) at home following a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 27, 1949 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Robert and Evelyn (Thompson) Carr.
A lifelong resident of the Dunkirk-Fredonia area, Mr. Carr had served in the National Guard for six years. He had worked for True Temper Corporation until its closing and retired from Nestle Purina in Dunkirk after 17 years of service.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Shorewood Country Club and was very proud of the fact he had recorded two holes-in-one within two years. He also was a life member of the First Ward Falcon Club.
Mr. Carr coached Fredonia Little League for more than 20 years.
He was especially fond of his canine companion, Heidi, and his wife's horse, Rosie.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah (Mekus) Lore; one son, Kevin R. Carr of Dunkirk; one step-daughter, Julie Lore of Dunkirk; one brother, Robert (Judith) Carr of Wytheville, Va.; and four nieces and nephews, Debra (Mark) Weisel of Hartville, OH, Kelly (Travis) Bright of Columbus, N.C., Robert (Monica) Carr of Humboldt, TN and Danielle (Greg) Keagle of Rochester, NY.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Lee Carr; and his grandson, Kelin Ryder Carr.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Pastor Cheni Khonje will officiate. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
